Eugene Schimelfenig, Scranton, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022.
Son of George Schimelfenig and Alice McAloon, he is survived by his spouse, Christine Donnolo Schimelfenig; and children, Julie Eltringham and spouse, James, Fredericksburg Va.; Randy Schimelfenig and spouse, Elaine, Dallas, Pa.; Gene Schimelfenig, Spring Brook Twp., Pa.; Atty. Mary C. Schimelfenig, Scranton; Kathleen Nestlehut, LPN, Scranton; Gary Schimelfenig and spouse, Nancy, Clarks Summit, Pa.; James Schimelfenig and spouse, Susan, Scranton; Atty. Jeff Schimelfenig and spouse, Bill Kirst, Seattle, Wash.; Kerry Schimelfenig and spouse, Erin, Peckville, Pa.; and Kevin Schimelfenig and spouse, Nancy, Raleigh, N.C. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirly McGeever Schimelfenig, in 1982; and his daughter-in-law, Johann Schimelfenig, in 2000. He is also survived by siblings, Don Schimelfenig and spouse, Julia, Bristol, R.I.; and Atty. Marianne Schimelfenig and spouse, John, Bala Cynwyd, Pa.; plus nieces and nephews.
As per his request, there will be no public viewing or services. Any remembrances can be made to St. Joseph’s Center, Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA; or Salvation Army.
