Dennis Kingdom, age 68, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away Christmas Eve surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Kathryn (Jones) Kingdom, on December 20, 2015.
Born on May 19, 1953, the son of the late Richard and Marguerite (Grimes) Kingdom, Dennis graduated from St. Patrick’s High School and Kings College.
He taught English at West Scranton High School before beginning his longtime career in sales and management at Johanna Farms and then as Director of Food Sales for Conagra Brands, prior to retirement.
Dennis later owned and operated “Ireland Uncorked”, an Irish-themed gift shop in Scranton. He was deeply proud of his Irish heritage and was a member of the Irish American Men’s Association and Sister City .
Dennis will be remembered by family and friends for his amazing humor, always joking with others, his love of music, die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers, his loyal friendship, his self-taught handyman skills (acquiring any tool needed), and his kindness and willingness to always help out others as well as his deep sense of love for his family, especially his love for his grandchildren.
Reunited now with his Kathy, whom he loved dearly, he’ll never be forgotten.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton.
He is survived by his adoring daughters, Heather Statsman and husband Rick of S. Abington Twp.; Brianna Kingdom of Scranton; his five grandchildren, Aidan, Sophia, Charlotte, Luca and Silas; sisters, Donna Hedman, and husband William; Marguerite Gaidula, and husband Edward, all of Moosic. He was also preceded in death by a brother Gerard “Jerry”, three sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank the entire staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their kindness and care extended to him this past week.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday at 9:15 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave. Scranton, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church in West Scranton. Burial will be in the Cathedral Cemetery.
