Obituaries

Audrey (Larson) Gallagher, age 92, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Michael P. Gallagher, on October 31, 1999.
Born on November 4, 1929, and daughter of the late Oscar and Mary (Knight) Larson, Audrey was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Upon raising her children, Audrey was employed by Williams’ Candy before retiring from the University of Scranton where she worked for the dining department.
Audrey was an avid reader and a fearless cook, unafraid to tackle any recipe. She enjoyed traveling, especially with her daughter, to visit her son, grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout the country. Family meant everything to her.
She’ll forever be loved by all who knew her. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Church Parish in West Scranton.
She is survived by her adoring family: children, Kathy Gallagher of Scranton and Dr. Michael Gallagher and wife Marianne of Highland, Maryland; grandchildren, Kaitlin Beck and husband Phillip, Kara Lynch and husband Nick, Anne Gallagher and Daniel Gallagher and wife Alice; great grandchildren, Shea Lynch and James Beck; and many nieces and nephews.
The last of five siblings, she was preceded in death by brothers, Paul Larson and Peter Farrell and sisters, Mildred Larson and Arlene Walsh.
Her family will be forever grateful to the I.C.U. Staff of Regional Hospital for the tremendous care, kindness and compassion throughout Audrey’s stay.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday at 11:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial will follow at Cathedral Cemetery in West Scranton. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 11:00 – 11:30 AM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Audrey’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
