Philip Cantelmo, 59, of Moosic, and formerly of West Scranton, died Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 29 years, Patricia McCaffery Cantelmo, preceded him on Aug. 30, 2012.
Born Jan. 28, 1962, in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of Carmine Cantelmo and the late Dorothy Dehart Cantelmo. At the early age of 14, he bought himself a hot dog stand where he worked for the next four years and met his beloved wife. He then became an independent contractor. In the early 1990’s, Philip and Patricia moved to Scranton with their children.
A true family man, Philip enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and their trips to Seaside Heights, N.J. One of his favorite pastimes was playing poker at Mohegan Sun and scratch-off tickets. He now joins his loving wife in eternal rest but will remain in his family’s hearts forever.
Surviving are his loving children, Philip Cantelmo and wife, Holly, Old Forge; Sean and Jimmy Cantelmo, Scranton; Diana Cantelmo, Scranton; and Theresa Evalenko and husband, Chris, Nanticoke; eight grandchildren, McKaylei, Anderson, Gulianna, Philip, Juan, Merina, Patricia and Aurora; dear siblings, Nicholas Cantelmo, Nora Borowski, Linda Hall, Chanel Amezquita and Dorothy Portee; several nieces and nephews.
An infant daughter, Patricia; and brothers, Frank and John Mendola preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at noon in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St, Old Forge, with burial to follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.
