Virginia M. Mancuso, age 94, a longtime resident of Old Forge, passed away Tuesday morning at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton.
Born in Old Forge on October 17, 1927, and daughter of the late Tobia and Concetta (Comita) Mancuso, Virginia was a graduate of Old Forge High School. She attended Marywood College before beginning an administrative career in accounting for several local businesses.
Strong-willed, determined and surely one to live on her own terms, Virginia was always up for a good time. In 1939, her mother had passed away which led to a special and close bond between her dear sisters. She had always loved Christmas and her legendary holiday decorations would attest to that. She’ll be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church/Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
Surviving are five nieces, Phyllis DiBella, Cynthia Helsel, Connie Meehan, Wendy Blum and Heidi Nicholson; many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
The last of six sisters she was also preceded in death by sisters, Angeline Moffa, Emma Jaffe, Helen Jaeger, Jennie and Dora Mancuso.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staffs of both the former Old Forge Manor, Taylor Moses Hospital and Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center for their care and compassion throughout Virginia’s stays with them.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, December 10th, at noon at St. Mary of the Assumption Church,/Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August Ricciardi, Pastor. Burial will follow at Old Forge Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 11:00 AM until Mass at the church. Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
