Harry J. Abplanalp, Sr., 72 , of Thompson, died Thursday, at home. His wife of 42 years is the former Christine Vernon. The couple was married on February 17th.
Born March 21, 1949 in Scranton, son of the late Harry D. and Sophie Kulick Abplanalp, Harry was a graduate of Old Forge High School. Harry served Honorably with the US Army. He was employed by Bell Telephone, later, AT&T, and finally Loral SkyNet in Hawley prior to retirement. Harry re-entered the workforce with Kane Industries. Harry was a 26 year member of Waverly Lodge #301, Free and Accepted Masons.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Harry was an avid outdoorsman who’s passion was hunting and fishing and enjoyed golf and skiing. Never one to sit still for too long, he always had a project underway or in the works around the house. Known to be a man with a huge heart, He adopted his first 2 sons, Marc and Edward, from Our Lady of Fatima. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his five sons, Marc, and wife, Lisa, Orrington, Maine; Edward, and wife, Stacey, Lititz, PA; Harry, Jr., and wife Angela, Kodak, TN; John, Thompson; and Jacob, and wife, Elissa, Forest City; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews
A daughter, Susan, and a brother, Geroge Abplanalp, preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Harry’s Life will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd, at 6:30 PM with services by the F&AM Waverly Lodge #301 in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N Main Street, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the time of the service in the funeral home.
