On October 15, 2021, Margaret (Margie) Marie Miletta, 96, formerly of Old Forge, passed away peacefully and in the comfort of her daughter’s home in Richardson, Texas.
Margaret was born on July 11, 1925 in Taylor, PA to the late John and Margaret (Syslo) Panek. She attended St. Michael’s Parochial elementary school and Taylor High School. Margaret married the late Frank Miletta on July 27, 1946 and together they raised five children, Maria, Carolyn, Frank Jr., John and Regina.
Margaret is a member of the Nativity of Our Lord Church in Duryea, PA. She was a life-long member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Old Forge until it’s closure in 2009. She was a member of St. Michael’s St. Cecelia choir and sang in both the Junior and Senior choirs.
A member of the ILGWU, Margaret retired in 1992 after working many years in the garment industry. She loved to dance the polka and was an active member of the Dupont Polka-Lites polka dancing group. She was an avid gardener and loved caring for her little dogs Carly and Maggie Mae.
During a trip to Rome in 2005, she attended Palm Sunday Mass at the Vatican with Pope John Paul viewing from his apartment window. She was given a ceremonial palm to carry as she stood beside the clergy processional aisle. In 2006, she had the opportunity to visit family in her parents’ native Poland and with their help located the house in which her parents lived before immigrating to the United States.
In addition to her parents and husband Frank, Margaret was preceded in death by her sons, Frank Jr. and John; brothers Louis, Joseph, Frank and Edward; and sisters Frances Maloney, Louise Panek, Mary Yulfo, Julia DelGos, and Ethel Morano.
She is survived by her daughters Maria Chobany and husband Andrew, Richardson TX, with whom she lived; Carolyn Kohut and husband John, Plano, TX; and Regina Miletta and partner John Fasceski, Honesdale, PA; and daughter-in-law Raquel, The Colony TX; grandchildren Stephen Serniak and wife Amanda, Larissa Ricci and husband Joshua, Deanna Miletta and partner Chad Smith, Brandon Miletta and wife Faith, and Shanna Miletta; and great grandsons Sebastian and Adrian Serniak and Theodore Ricci. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 8:15 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 9:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson Street in Duryea, to be celebrated by Rev. Michael Bryant, Pastor. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
