Martha (Jackson) Maurer, age 89 and a longtime Moosic resident, passed away Friday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 68 years, Charles R. Maurer, who preceded her in death on May 20, 2018.

She was born on February 22, 1932, to the late James and Bertha (Brady) Jackson, and was raised in Wyoming while attending St. Cecelia’s School. Martha was the last of 13 siblings in the Jackson family.

Martha’s devotion to her marriage and family meant everything to her. She was fulfilled in life by the quality time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as the kindest hearted woman who always made time for anyone who needed a listening ear. She cherished her friendships and gladly welcomed everyone to sit and have a cup of tea. She was “Mom” & “Nana” to all. “Marty” to many. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is also survived by her loving family, son, Charles R. Maurer Jr. and wife, Marion, of Moosic; daughters, Virginia Hargrove, of Moosic; and Doris Keating-Welenc, of Scranton; eight grandchildren, Marion Lynn, Virginia; and Ashley Maurer; Russell Hargrove and wife, Shannon; Ryan Hargrove and wife, Krystal; Rachel Marable and husband, Clint; and twins, Sean Welenc and fiance, Leah; and Amber Klonowski and husband, Josh; nine great-grandchildren, Kayla Reagan, Ellie Ana and Emmalyn Marable, Giovanni Charles Cintron, Charlie and Asher Hargrove; Charlie and Scarlett Carson, and Abigail Klonowski; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday, October 1st, at 9:15 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Queen of the Apostle’s Parish, 715 Hawthorne Street, Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Philip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Family and friends may also pay their respects on Friday, October 1st, between 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd, at 9:00 AM in Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.
