Claire E. (Schmidt) Wagner, age 78 and a longtime Old Forge resident, passed away on Monday evening at Guardian Health Care Center in Taylor where she was a five-year guest. She was preceded in death on September 2, 2013, by her beloved husband of 51 years, Albert C. Wagner.
Born in Scranton on October 8, 1942, and daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Tugend) Schmidt, Claire was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Upon raising her three children and with a love for gardening, she and Albert owned and operated Wagner’s Garden Center for 21 years. Upon her retirement, she was a longtime activities aid for Oakwood Terrace in Moosic, PA.
An avid gardener, she was also a canner and skillful baker, starting a parttime wedding and birthday cake business. Now at peace and with her beloved Albert by her side, she will never be forgotten by her loved ones.
Of strong religious faith, she was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clarks Summit. She loved spending time in her backyard, where she hosted family picnics and parties.
She is survived by her three children, Richard Wagner of Old Forge, Bob Wagner and wife Sherri of Old Forge and Sherri L. Wagner of Lehighton, PA; her three grandchildren, Samantha Radler and husband Ian of Lehighton and Joshua and Madison Wagner, both of Old Forge; a great grandson, Cameron Radler; her dear sister, Audrey Cecchetelli of Scranton and many nieces and nephews.
Three siblings, Robert Schmidt, Elizabeth Rowlands, and Jeanne McManamon; and her grandson, Adam Stanton, also preceded her in death.
Claire’s family would like to thank the staff of Guardian Health (formerly Riverside Rehabilitation Center) for the years of care and compassion given to both Claire and her family.
A celebration of Claire’s Life is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 205 W. Grove St., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Pastor George Mathews. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church from 10:00 AM until services.
