Russell Jude Perry passed away on September 13, 2021, at the age of 62, in Oakland NJ after a brave battle with cancer. Russell was born in Scranton, the son of the late Dr. Ronald J. Perry, Sr. and Mary Lou Szajkowski (formerly Perry). Russell was a graduate of Duquesne University. His favorite job was as official scorer for the Scranton Wilke-Barre Red Barons during their initial season in 1989. Russell was an avid sports fan and always followed his favorite teams, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Green Bay Packers. He was also a prolific scorer on several wheelchair basketball teams in the Scranton area for many years. Russell was a voracious reader and loved listening to music of the 60s and 70s.
Russell is survived by his mother Margaret M. Perry of Morgan City, LA and his siblings: Ronald J. Perry, Jr. and his wife Joan of Swoyersville; Randall J. Perry of West Milford NJ; Margaret Giglio and husband Joseph of Lafayette LA; Mary Belle Gilroy of Dalton PA; and Ellen Finn and husband Sean of New Bern NC, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 8:30 AM until Mass at the church. Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church. Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Avenue in Scranton.
