Tia (Webb) Griggs of Moosic, passed away on Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness. She is survived by her loving husband, Philip Griggs.
Born in Moosic and daughter of the late Sylvester and Mabel E. (Dawes) Webb, Tia was a graduate of the former Moosic High School, and a member of its “55 Classics.” She earned a cosmetology degree from Empire Beauty School and upon raising her beloved daughters, returned to school to study at the former Northeast Institute of Education. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the financial adjustment department of Fleet Bank (now Bank of America) in Moosic.
Active and always on the go, Tia was well-versed, well-traveled and involved in just about everything. She played softball as part of the “Miss-E-Moms.” She was an avid bowler as a fixture in Wednesday night’s striker’s league at South Side Lanes. She took art lessons from Arthur Andush at the former West Scranton Senior Center and was a published poet, having her poetry printed in The Times-Tribune.
Above all else, however, came her faith and love for her family. Devoted to her church throughout her life, her strong faith never wavered. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Tia will never be forgotten by those whose lives she touched.
She is also survived by her children, Susan Walsh and husband, Robert Saum, of Richmond, Va.; Phyllis Theriault and husband, Michael Sr., of Taylor; Lisa Gretz and husband, Michael, of Taylor; Thelma Steidle, of Richmond, Va.; stepchildren, Kristin Abdo and husband, Joseph, of Clarks Summit; Eric Griggs and Kevin Griggs, of Pittston; grandchildren, Kristen Wincovitch and husband, Jeffrey; Michael Jr. and Jacob Theriault, Trey, Connor, Emilee and Susan Griggs; Christopher and wife, Stephanie, of Richmond; and David Saum, of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, U.S. Army; great-grandchildren, Kaylin Theriault, Charlie Snedeker, Maksimus and Reba Wincovitch, and Nathan Saum; a sister, Lois Lucke, of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
Sisters, Romayne Kreig, Mary Jane Turano and Faye Lynn, also preceded her in death; as well as a beloved niece, Deborah Lucke.
Her family would like to thank Tia’s dearest friend of six decades, Anna Mae Davis, for her unconditional love and loyalty.
