Genevieve A. “Jean” Cannon, 90, a lifelong resident of Scranton died peacefully at home on Tuesday. Her husband, former Scranton Times-Tribune printer, Joseph P. Cannon, died September 26, 1973.
Born January 24, 1931, daughter of the late William J. and Genevieve May Brown, Jean was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Parish, Scranton and the Society of the Faithful. She was employed by the University of Scranton for over 10 years beginning in 1987.
Jean absolutely loved working at the “U” and was loved by her fellow employees just the same. Upon retirement, she traveled to Ireland, Spain, California, and New York City. In addition, she loved playing pinochle and dominos with her card club. Jean cherished spending family time at the Jersey Shore as well as Connecticut, where she was simply known as “Grandma Jean” by all of her grandchildren. Jean loved family, people, and life. Simply put, she was loved by everyone. Jean will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
