Obituaries

Joseph (Joe) Diano, age 74, of Scranton, passed away Sunday evening at Forest City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after an illness.
Born in Carbondale on September 16, 1946, and son of the late Dominick and Rose (Calachino) Diano, Joe was a graduate of Carbondale Area High School before working as a mechanic prior to his retirement.
A loving man who adored his sons and grandchildren, he also always enjoyed feeding the neighborhood cats and squirrels. His family always came first but his love for Elvis Presley was a close second. His home always had an “open door” policy, where his sons’ friends were always welcomed with a meal, a bed, or a place to hang out. He will certainly be missed by his loved ones.
He is survived by his sons, Dominick Diano, with whom he resided, and Peter Diano and wife Lori of Scranton; his adored grandchildren, Peter and Abby Diano; his longtime wife, JoAnn (Engle) Diano; his sisters, Josephine Catanzaro and Rosemary McConnell, both of Carbondale; nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Joe was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Diano and a sister, Pauline “Dolly” Tanana.
A celebration of Joe’s life is scheduled for Thursday at the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects from 5:00 PM until a 7:00 PM Memorial Service by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora.
