Robert F. Roland, born on August 8, 1934, died on April 18, 2021 in Port Orange, Florida.
Son of Frank and Marguerite Schmidt Roland, he was married to the love of his life Mary (Seechock) Roland for 64 years.
Graduated from West Scranton High School in 1951, he then worked his way through college, graduating in 1959 from Benjamin Franklin University.
Bob began his working career as a Scranton Times newspaper carrier in West Scranton during the 1940’s. Upon graduating from high school he worked at Consolidated Molded Products in Scranton but with family encourage moved to Falls Church, Virginia where he lived with his Uncle Bob Roland wife Betty and their family of 4 boys for several years.
While working full time he started attending college. Just about every weekend he would return to Scranton and in November of 1956 he married Mary. His adult career began with Capitol Airlines where he worked closely with the data processing unit, which was just the beginning of the computer era. Then moving to US Air where he was VP of Finance. Other opportunities presented themselves and he moved to a subsidiary of United Airlines – General Adjustment Bureau (GAB) in New York City as VP of Finance. Bob finishing is career as owner of Auto Option, in Ramsey New Jersey. Bob’s real love was his family. Bob travel the world with his family by his side Ireland, Africa, Hawaii just to name a few. Bob’s personality was such that everyone enjoyed being around as well as a great story teller. What he loved most of all, was his Scranton roots. He would tell everyone that he was from Scranton.
Bob is survived by, in addition to his wife Mary, his children Kathleen Maish, Lagrangeville, NY, and Maureen Napolitano and Michael of Charlottesville, VA; his grandchildren, Patrick, Erin, Brian Maish (Amanda), Megan Napolitano and Molly (AJ) Willy; his siblings, Frances Kovaleski and husband Kenneth, Marguerite Martin and husband Joseph P.; sister-in law, Susan Kakareka (late Charles) and Joan Simms (late George); along with a lifelong boyhood friend, a brother he never had, Ralph Cantaberry.
Bob is predeceased by his son Robert Roland, sisters Ann Janoski (Thomas), Patricia Burns (Robert), and former son-in-law, Paul Maish
A celebration of Robert’s Life is scheduled for Saturday, May 29th, with a Memorial Mass held at St Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, at 11:00 a.m. Family will be accepting friends and family to pay their respects from 10:00 a.m until the time of Mass.
