Pauline “Polly” (Curmaci) Malina, R.N., 96 years young, of North Wales and formerly of Taylor, passed away Friday morning at Abington Health Center in Warminster, after a recent illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Joseph Malina, on January 10, 2011.
Born on December 29, 1924 and raised in West Scranton, Pauline was the daughter of the late Giuseppe (Joseph) and Elizabeth (Mario) Curmaci. A graduate of the former Scranton Central High School, she then studied nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing as a Cadet Nurse. She loved reading the newspaper, crossword puzzles, gameshows, soap operas, and shopping, keeping QVC and UPS in business.
She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Catherine Malina-Owens with whom she resided in North Wales; her two granddaughters, Malina Ann Danowski and spouse Nicholas and Elizabeth Lee Ferraro and spouse Joseph, and her great-granddaughter, Emma Malina Danowski. Her siblings, Sam Curmaci and wife Theresa of Scranton and Vincent Curmaci of Moosic; and many nieces and nephews, including her godchildren, A.J. Curmaci, James Galdieri, and Elizabeth Ruddy Clymer.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Malina-Miles; siblings, Anthony, Dominick and Claire Curmaci, Mary Galdieri and Rose Ruddy.
Private blessing services will be from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with burial alongside her husband and daughter to follow at the Cathedral Cemetery in West Scranton.
