Ira Goosay, age 74, a longtime Taylor resident, passed away Thursday afternoon at Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Taylor, after a recent illness. His beloved wife and best friend, Evelyn (Mrowcza) Goosay, survives.
Born in Scranton on October 24, 1946, son of the late Joyce and Benjamin Goosay, Ira was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1964, before graduating from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Philadelphia and proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
A master salesman, Ira began his career in automotive sales with I.R. Motorhomes. He co-owned the franchise Ugly Duckling Automobile Rentals in Dickson City before working for Sun Buick in Moosic, where he worked many years prior to his retirement. He then worked as a part-time school bus driver.
Happy-Go-Lucky, to know Ira was to love him. Above all else came his family whom he truly adored. He’ll certainly be missed by all who knew him.
Along with Evelyn, he is also survived by his adoring grandson, Ethan Wassel and Paul Wassel, III; his dear sisters, Francine Metallo and Jerilyn Schnessel, both of Florida; sister-in-law, Carol Orloski of Taylor; step-son, Paul Wassel; great grandchildren, Tyler and Donovan; and many nieces and nephews.
His sister, Marcia Milkman, and his mother-in-law, Florence Mrowcza, also preceded him in death on March 16th.
Private blessing services are scheduled from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with interment and full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard to follow at the Cathedral Cemetery in West Scranton.
