Richard Gaul, age 77, of Old Forge and formerly of West Scranton, passed away Monday evening at Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Taylor. His beloved wife of 55 years, Helen (Dudeck) Gaul, preceded him in death on December 8, 2020.
Born on October 7, 1943 and raised in West Scranton, Richard was the son of the late Thomas and Lucille (Garrett) Gaul. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School before attending Johnson College. A proud U.S. Veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in both the Army and the Navy where he was awarded the Navy Defense Service Medal prior to his honorable discharge in 1966. He long remained a member of the Dupont VFW Post #4909.
He was employed by GMB as a forklift operator and as a security guard at Lockheed Martin before working at Lowe’s Warehouse, prior to his retirement.
A loving husband, father, and “Poppa Gaul”, Richard also enjoyed football, especially cheering on the Las Vegas Raiders, religiously watching the History Channel, and any good documentary.
Joining his beloved wife, he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his loving sons, John Gaul, and wife, Nicole, Old Forge, Thomas Gaul, and wife, Christine, Old Forge, Robert Gaul, Moosic and Richard Gaul, Jr., and wife Gail, Dillsburg; and three grandchildren who loved “Poppa Gaul”, McKenzie, Tori, and Taylor Tansley.A brother, Thomas Gaul, Jr., also preceded him in death.
His family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Riverside Rehabilitation Center for its longterm care and compassion.
Private funeral services will be from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with burial to follow at Forest Home Cemetery in Taylor. Military honors will be by the AMVETS Honor Guard.
