Donna (Liples) Chelland, a longtime Old Forge resident, passed away peacefully Friday evening surrounded by her loved ones. She was 62 years old.
She is survived by her beloved husband, George Chelland. Wed on June 24, 1983, the couple celebrated 37 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton on January 28, 1959, daughter of the late John, Jr. and Ann E. (Brown) Liples, Donna was a graduate of the former Bishop Klonowski High School in South Scranton. After working for Walsh and Associates, she then served as a buyer for The Globe Store of Downtown Scranton, prior to its closure.
Kind, caring and possessing the biggest heart, Donna’s focus was always on others. Among others charities, she was a longtime volunteer for The Friends of the Poor.
Having been awarded for her ballroom dancing, dancing was her lifelong favorite pastime. She never passed up a good slot machine at the Mohegan Sun and she loved time spent at her second home in Naples, Florida. She’ll forever be loved and missed by her family and friends.
She is also survived by her loving son, Jonathan Bartell of Pittston; her grandsons, Dominic and Roman Bartell; her sisters, Deborah Daubenhauser and husband Ronald of TN and Cindy Weaver of AZ; and nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank Donna’s longtime caregiver, Alnisa Hardy, who took care of Donna as if she was her own family. They’d also like to thank the entire staffs of St. Claire Home Health and Sacred Heart Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion provided to both Donna and her family.
A blessing service by Rev. August Ricciardi will be held privately from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
Memorial contributions may be made in Donna’s name to the Sacred Heart Hospice Memorial Fund c/o 600 Baltimore Dr # 7, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
