Obituaries

Kathryn S. Carey, L.P.N. age 69, of West Scranton and an Old Forge native, passed away Thursday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, after an illness.
Born in Scranton on August 23, 1951, daughter of the late David and Ann (Osmolia) Carey, Kathryn was a graduate of Old Forge High School before graduating from the former Mercidian School of Practical Nursing. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she worked for the Clarks Summit State Hospital for 15 years before providing home health care prior to her retirement.
Kathryn never passed up a good scratch-off lotto ticket, and a casino gal, she loved her trips to the Mohegan Sun with her nephew Elliott as the driver and her Mom as her playing partner. She adored her family, especially her son, brothers and her little red head, her granddaughter, Nina, whom she was so proud of.
She will never be forgotten. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish.
She is survived by her son, Scott Carey and fiance Amy Deice of Hughestown; her brothers, David Carey and wife Joanne of Old Forge and Elliott Carey, Sr. and fiance Joyce Brigido, all of Old Forge; her granddaughter, Nina; and nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her infant sister, Lee Ann Carey.
A blessing services is scheduled for Monday at 1:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with burial to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Old Forge. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from noon until services at the funeral home.
