Joseph A. Woodmancy, Jr. of Pittston Twp., passed away Saturday evening at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton at the age of 92. He and his beloved wife and best friend, Sharon (Tucker) Woodmancy, were married for 39 years, sharing a wonderful life together.
Born in Moosic on January 18, 1928, and son of the late Joseph, Sr. and Gladys (Springer) Woodmancy, Joe was educated at Moosic High School before honorably serving his country in the U.S. Army following WWII.
For many years Joe operated his own construction business as well as owning a furniture store in Nicholson, where he had previously lived.
He attended Moosic Alliance Community Church for many years where he was blessed with countless friends.
He enjoyed cooking and woodworking while always keeping busy, and he was always willing to help anyone in need. Now at peace, he’ll long be missed by family and friends.
He is also survived by his son, Gene Woodmancy of Moosic; his granddaughter, Helene Wisnoski and husband David of Telford; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Camryn Wisnoski; his daughter-in-law, Anne Woodmancy of Pittston; and his niece, Debbie Dolgash and husband John of Moosic.
Also preceding him in death was a son, Joseph R. “Terry” Woodmancy, on July 2, 2020; and his sister, Jane Ellard on September 2, 2019.
Private funeral services from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, will be conducted by both Rev. Eric Ferguson and Rev. Art Harshman. Military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Nicholson Cemetery. A celebration of Joe’s life at the Moosic Alliance Community Church will be announced for a later date.
