Teresa (Stefano) Hughes, age 81, of Old Forge, passed away Thursday evening at home surrounded by her loving family by her side, after an illness. She is survived by her beloved husband, George Hughes. Wed on September 6, 1975, the couple recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
Born on October 27, 1938, and daughter of the late Nicholas, Sr. and Marie (O’Hara) Stefano, Teresa was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1957, before then attending the former Lackawanna Business College.
She had worked at Capital Records before raising her daughters. She last worked as a certified nursing assistant for “Visiting Angels”. Given the opportunity to care for others, she absolutely loved this job.
For 15 years, Teresa was the proud day captain of the volunteer ambulance company. Also an EMT, she again loved the chance to help others. She also served as president of the ladies auxiliary of the former Lawrence Hose Company of Old Forge where she had been an active member for years.
She was generous, kind and giving, and above all else came her family whom she adored, especially all of her grandchildren. Countless memories of Halloweens at her house, or time spent on her porch with family, will never be forgotten.
She is also survived by her daughters, Michele Fedor and fiance Robert Panek of Duryea and Pattie Fassett of Old Forge; siblings, Mary Ellen Krenitsky and husband Stephen of Old Forge and Joseph Stefano and Mary of Florida; four grandchildren, Matthew Fedor and Michael, Ryan Fedor and Marissa, Jeremy Fedor and Chrissy and Francesca Fassett and T.J.; her great grandson, Nathan Paul Fedor; and nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Nicholas and Francis (Frank) Stefano; a grandson, Justin Pattison; and a nephew, Stephen Krenitsky.
Her family would like to thank Annie, outpatient nurse of Sacred Heart Hospice, for the excellent care she had given to Teresa.
Blessing services are scheduled for Monday at 7:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 4:00PM until services at the funeral home.
