Marjorie E. Meyers Lindsay, a lifelong resident of the Hyde Park section of West Scranton, passed away Thursday after a courageous battle with heart disease. She would have celebrated her 89th birthday on September 23.
Born in Scranton on Sept. 23, 1931 and daughter of the late John (Jack) and Madriene (DeLacy) Lesh, she attended West Scranton High School and enjoyed a long career in retail, advising women on fashion choices for the former Catherine’s in the Keyser Oak Shopping Center, Scranton.
Marjorie enjoyed a trip to the casino, a game of bingo and bowling with her Big Four Mix League for more than 20 years. Her most favorite pastime was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Never one to miss a sporting event, dance recital, or school function, she sat in bleachers and audiences for more than 60 years and loved every minute of it – a proud West Sider until the end. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are her children, William Meyers of South Abington Twp., David Meyers and wife, Sharon, of Dalton; Jene Madriene Lindsay of Scranton, and Paul (P.J.) Lindsay and wife, Megan, of Scranton; her grandchildren, Marcy Duffy and husband, Danny; Melissa Pappas and husband, James; and Steven Mercer and wife, Kathi; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronald Lesh and Gail Creegan; numerous nieces and nephews; and last but not least, her very best friend of 77 years, Jene O’Hearn Delesky.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, William J. Meyers, in 1959; her second husband, Ronald A. Lindsay, in 2004; and a son, Gary, in 2016; two sisters, Marilyn Hice and Joan Royce; and four brothers, Richard, James, Hubert and Neal Lesh.
Her family wishes to extend its gratitude to the amazing staffs of both Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Regional Hospital, as well as cardiologist Dr. Stylianos Galanakis, M.D., for the tremendous amount of collective care and support given to Marjorie throughout her illness.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday to begin with a private blessing from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with burial to follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 111 State Route 435, Elmhurst Twp., where all family and friends are welcome to attend a 10:30 a.m. graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie’s memory to Hospice of the Sacred Heart’s Memorial Fund, c/o 600 Baltimore Drive # 7, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
