Obituaries

Joseph Fagan, of Boston and a Scranton native, passed away Friday morning at his mother’s home in Moscow, while surrounded by his loving family. He was 62 years old.
Born in Lewisburg on November 2, 1957, he was the son of Marita (Minnaugh) Fagan and the late James J. Fagan. Joe was a graduate of the former Scranton Central High School. He began his career in the culinary arts after graduating from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, however his talents as a cook began well before his college days, when he worked at Granteed’s Pizza and Billy’s Steakhouse during high school.
After relocating to Boston, he served as a chef at St. Botolph’s Restaurant. He later returned to the area where he began Dubliner Photography Studio in Dunmore, where he displayed his artistic talents as a photographer. He ultimately moved back to Boston to take a position as Executive Sous-Chef with Gourmet Caterers, where he worked until becoming ill.
Talented in so many ways, Joe was seemingly accomplished in any endeavor he faced. He was a skilled car mechanic, he ran the Scranton Marathon, and he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow for his achievements in the Boy Scouts of America.
From the Grand Canyon to Mt. Washington, Joe enjoyed climbing and hiking wherever he saw a challenge. A loving son, brother and uncle, he will be forever missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving family, his three siblings, Sheila Stone and husband T.J. of Scranton, Dr. James Fagan and wife Maureen of Moscow, and Atty. Paul Fagan and wife Mai-Lan of Sewickley; nieces and nephews, and great nephews and great nephews, Kara, Rachel, Jimmy, Courtney, Kelly, Casey, Steven, Lauren, Daniel, Everett, Margaux and Sarah.
His family would like to extend their gratitude to Joe’s remarkable caregivers, Mary, Geri, Arlene, Candice, Kim and Dee, who collectively made it possible for Joe to remain at home. The family would also like to thank the entire staff of Allied Hospice Services as well as Joe’s extended family at Gourmet Caterers.
Private blessing services are scheduled for Monday from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow.
