Helen Mary (Dunick) Carey, age 93, an Old Forge native and a guest at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton, passed away Thursday morning. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry J. Carey, on March 27, 1978.
Born in Old Forge on December 9, 1926, and daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Penta) Dunick, Helen was educated in Old Forge Schools.
She had worked in sales for Stanley Products before working at Lokuta Pharmacy. Prior to her retirement, she worked for the Yatesville Bus Co. as a school bus driver. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Church in Old Forge, until its closure.
Greatly independent in her life prior to her illness, she enjoyed crocheting, a good crossword puzzle and anything and everything related to Frank Sinatra. Now at peace, she will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her four loving children, Margaret Ann Doohaluk and husband Ronald of Galveston, Texas, Karen Lugin and husband Nick of Lake Ariel, Bruce Carey and wife Kim of Ingram, Texas and Bryan Carey and wife Deedra of Clarks Summit; nine grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
Her sister, Anna Koziol, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Mountain View Care center for treating both Helen and her family as if they were their own.
A blessing service is scheduled for Wednesday at noon at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Parish Cemetery, Duryea.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 11:00AM until services.
