Matthew (Matt) Mischello, Sr., a lifelong Old Forge resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon. He would have celebrated his 70th birthday on June 9th.
On August 26, 2018, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Mary Grace (Roche) Mischello.
Son of the late Matthew F. and Rose Mary (Gike) Mischello, Matt was a 1969 graduate of Old Forge High School. For years he had managed his family’s business, Putt N’ Snack Diner in Taylor, and it was there he met his beloved Mary. He went on to become a painter, serving in the Building Trades Association Union.
Matt will be long remembered by countless traits. His patience, his kindness, his engaging spirit and his innate ability to find the good in others are only several of the characteristics family and friends adored about him.
He loved conversations reminiscing about the good ‘ol days, and he never passed up a good time with family and friends. He enjoyed his “Boys’ night out”, Florida vacations, a good Old Forge restaurant meal (especially at Anthony’s) and maybe above all, Sunday night family dinners at home.
He took great pride in all he did from the way he dressed to his meticulous garden but his greatest pride was undoubtedly his son and his daughter. Loved by all who knew him, Matt will never be forgotten.
He is also survived by his adoring children, Matt Mischello, Jr., of Old Forge and Natalie Mischello of Philadelphia; his loving siblings,
Mary Rose Fumanti and husband Paul of Old Forge, Patrick Mischello and wife Phyllis of Old Forge, and James Mischello and wife Judy of Taylor; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and the best of friends.
His brother, Thomas Mischello, also preceded him on death June 20, 2019.
A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge, will be privately celebrated by Rev. Joseph Sica, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
To celebrate both his upcoming birthday and also a life well lived, the details for a life celebration will be announced.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
