Pauline Sokira Eastman, 90, of Scranton, died peacefully Thursday evening surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years John Eastman Jr. Born in Scranton on July 8, 1929, she was the daughter the late Michael and Mary Sokira and attended West Scranton High School. She was a devoted Byzantine Catholic and an active member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Scranton, and for many years enjoyed serving as a volunteer in various positions including at St Mary’s Center. She enjoyed raising her children, cooking/baking, playing cards, bingo, watching baseball and game shows on TV. A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived, by her four children and eleven grand-children; John M. Eastman and wife Karen, (Christin, Michael & Marc), Debra E Generotti and husband Elmer, Plantation, Florida, (Jason & Stephanie), Pauline D. Geiger and husband Richard, Clarks Summit, (Brittany & Roderick), James R. Eastman with companion Luanne, Scranton and daughter-in-law Terri Eastman with companion Keith (James, Kimberly, William & Taralee) as well as three great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. We would like to extend a special thanks to our brother/her son “Jimmy” who has been our mother’s compassionate caregiver for over 6 years.
Also preceding in death was a brother Henry Sokira; four sisters Anna Brink, Mildred Golden, Alice Ruane and Martha Kirschenheiter .
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4:00-7:00PM at the Kearney Funeral Home, 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, to begin with a 9:00AM Paratas Services at the funeral home, followed with a 10:00AM Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 310 Mifflin Avenue, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Leonard Martin, S.J., Pastor. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
