Walter “Butch” Burdett, age 84, a lifelong resident of Taylor, a staple of the community, and a proud U.S. Army Veteran, passed away Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born on May 6, 1934, Butch was the son of the late William and Edith Thomas Burdett. A well-renowned auto mechanic, he had magical hands which could repair anything mechanical or otherwise. He utilized his talents at Oak Hill Motors and Gaughan Auto Sales.
The kindest of souls, Butch would rise to any occasion to enjoy himself. His dancing and tambourine playing were well-known to those who had the pleasure of socializing with him. He certainly knew how to have a good time.
He was a true gentleman and a true friend who would do anything for anyone in need. Loved by all who knew him, he will be forever missed.
He was also a member of St. Stephen’s Social Club, Taylor Hose Co. #1 and the 1st Congregational Church in Taylor.
He is survived by his extended family, James Gaughan and wife Claudine and their children J.C. and Layla; JoAnn Van Fleet and husband Scott and their son Kelly Mullen, Cathy Pascolini and husband David and their daughter Nina; the entire Gaughan Family; and the countless friends he made throughout his life.
Three brothers, Thomas, William and Paul Burdett, preceded him in death.
A special thank you is necessary for the entire I.C.U. staff of Geisinger C.M.C. and Dr. Jihad Charabati for their collective care and compassion.
Military services by the AMVETS Honor Guard are scheduled for Sunday at 5:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 2:00PM until services. Private interment will be Monday at Milwaukee Cemetery.
