Jane Kavulich, 87, of West Scranton, passed away peacefully Thursday morning at home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Michael Kavulich Sr., on April 28th 1994.
Born on November 13, 1931, Jane was the daughter of the late George and Mary McAndrew Boyd. She was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School and upon raising her family, began her career in child care. Remembered fondly by her students as “Miss Jane,” she was employed as a teacher’s aide by the Scranton School District and Little People Day Care in Scranton until her retirement.
Jane was a devout Roman Catholic, and a lifelong faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church in West Scranton where she participated in the quilting club and volunteered at church picnics for many years. She was an active member of the West Side Senior Center and rarely missed a casino bus trip with her friends.
A dedicated and beloved mother, and an adored and doting “Nana”, Jane valued her family above all. There was no pastime that meant more to her than spending time with her 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Family vacations at the beach and Sunday dinners made some of her fondest memories.
She was treasured by her family, loved by her friends, and admired by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her unwavering faith, strength, grace, and loving spirit.
She is survived by her children, Paul Kavulich and wife Dawn, Cheryl Van Fleet and husband Gary, and Robert Kavulich, all of Scranton; her brother, Eugene Boyd and wife Donna of Scranton; her daughter in law, Beverly Kavulich of Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Kavulich, Jr., daughter, Maury Kavulich, grandson, Justin Kavulich, brothers, George, Robert, Ronald, & Charles Boyd and sister, Mae Stevens, all of Scranton.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday at 11:00AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 9:00AM until Mass at the church. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jane’s name to either the St. Patrick’s Food Pantry, c/o 1401 Jackson Street, Scranton, Pa., 18504, or the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Ave., Taylor, Pa., 18517.
