Barbara Salerno, age 80, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died peacefully Monday evening, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home.
Born on November 28, 1938, the daughter of the late Cosmo “Ace” and Violet Moran Salerno, Barbara was a graduate of Old Forge High School.
Barbara was the most selfless person, always putting the needs of others before her own. Kind, caring and generous, she loved children and had an amazing way with animals. She enjoyed cooking, and was also an avid sports fan.
Her greatest joy in life however was her grandchildren, Stephen and Aleca Semenza. Her family meant everything to her and they will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her loving daughter and best friend, Janice Semenza and husband Al Semenza; her adoring grandchildren, Stephen and Aleca Semenza; her sister-in-law, Vera Salerno; and nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Frank “Gip” Salerno and Lettie Salerno Marino, also preceded her in death.
Her family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli, the staff of Comprehensive Medical Home Care and nurses Lisa Feeney and Katie Pernot. Also grateful to Allied Services, including Cindy McIntosh, they would like to especially thank Barbara’s primary nurse, Ann Marie Lavelle. The family will forever appreciate your care, kindness, compassion.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
