Santo Tagliaterra, age 90 and a lifelong Old Forge resident, passed away Tuesday at Allied Services Hospice in Scranton, after an illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ursula Guzzi Tagliaterra. The couple married on July 7, 1951.
Born on May 12, 1928 and son of the late Fred, Sr. and Jenny Ross Tagliaterra, Santo was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1945. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War, prior to his Honorable Discharge.
He worked alongside his father in the family business, specializing in masonry, stucco and concrete construction. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
He is survived by his adoring grandson and caregiver, Brian Rodell of Old Forge; his loving sister, Phyllis Fiske of Old Forge; an aunt; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and countless friends.
His daughter, Drusilla Rodell; and his brother, Fred Tagliaterra, Jr., also preceded him in death.
Following Santo’s wishes, a blessing service followed with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard at Old Forge Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
