Obituaries

Ronald (Ron) Evans, age 81, of Taylor, passed away Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbye (Biggar) Evans. The couple recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on October 3rd.
Born on August 22, 1937 and raised in Clarks Summit, Ron was the son of the late Frank, Sr. and Edna Mathias Evans. A graduate of the former Clarks Summit High School, Class of 1955, he then briefly spent time in California before being drafted to serve in the United States Army. After being stationed in Germany and also serving in the Army Reserves, he was honorably discharged from the service.
He began a career in sales with CBS affiliate WDAU. Leaving after 18 years of dedicated work, he would go on to play an instrumental role in the launching of WOLF-TV, a Fox affiliate, in Scranton in 1985. It was then in 1994 when he began his own business, Ron Evans’ Direct Mailing, the region’s first of its kind to use a system of bar codes. After 10 years of operating, he sold to Universal Printing before his well-deserved retirement in 2004.
He was a faithful pillar of the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Old Forge where he served as the chair of finance, volunteered in all church functions and taught Sunday School for many years.
A longtime member of the Moosic Masonic Lodge, #664 F&AM, he served as the lodge’s Worshipful Master in 1975 and he was also a member of the Valley of Scranton’s Keystone Consistory. Upon retirement, his one passionate hobby was golfing, playing as often as five days per week. Above all however was his family, especially his wife, daughter and three grandchildren. Being active in his beloved grandchildrens lives meant everything to him. Kind, caring, selfless and humble, Ron will forever be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his adored daughter, Bronwyn Pero and husband Frank of Old Forge; his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of, Sydney Read, a student at Ross University School of Medicine – Medical College, Cameron Read, a student at the University of Scranton’s School of Nursing, and Frankie Pero, a student in Old Forge School District; nephews, Howard and Bruce Evans and wife Janie, all of Jermyn; and nieces and nephews.
His brother, Frank Evans, Jr., and sister-in-law Eileen also preceded him in death.
His family would like to express its gratitude to Drs. Kenneth Sebastianelli and Bruce Saidman along with the entire E.R. and 5th floor staffs of Wilkes Barre General Hospital for the collective kindness and compassion given to both Ron and his family while under their care. They will always be grateful.
Funeral services by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora are scheduled for Friday at 10:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Burial with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp. Relatives and friends may pay their respects Thursday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
