Carol (Meranti) Morris Shamonsky, age 68, of Archbald, passed away Sunday at home. Her husband of 17 years, William (Bill) Shamonsky, preceded her in death on March 24, 2017.
An Old Forge native, Carol was born on February 26, 1950. Daughter of Grace Fratamico of Plains Twp. and the late Ralph Meranti, Carol was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1968. Graduating with her Bachelors Degree from Penn State University’s State College Campus, she was a loyal Nittany Lion fan. For 35 devoted years until her retirement, Carol served as a math teacher for the Lakeland School District while also working during her career as an adjunct professor in the math department for Penn State’s Worthington Campus. She had touched the lives of countless students throughout her decades as an educator.
Carol was friendly, kind, welcoming and always on the go. An MG enthusiastist with her husband Bill, she served as the national NAMGAR Chairman. She was an avid mah jong player having played in a tournament as recently as last month. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit where she took an active role in all church functions. On a moment’s notice, Carol was ready to travel – anywhere and everywhere – making many friendships along her journey. Above all was her family; a loving mother, daughter, grandmother and sister, she will be forever missed. Passing away unexpectedly, she is at peace.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Meredith Mead and husband David of Palmerton; her adoring granddaughters, Dana and Danica Mead; her loving sisters, Gloria Meranti of Throop and Michele Garcia and husband James of Tega Cay, South Carolina; and nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Joseph Meranti; and a former husband, David “Trooper” Morris, Sr.
Funeral services to be conducted by Rev. Bill Carter, First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit Pastor, are scheduled for Thursday at 11:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery in Swoyersville.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s name to the “My Brothers Keeper” Drive c/o First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, 300 School Street, Clarks Summit, Pa., 18411.
