William (Bill) Pfeiffer, II, age 78, of Greentown, and formerly of Smithtown, Long Island, N.Y., died Saturday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Mercer Pfeiffer. Married on July 13, 1963, the couple most recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Born in Bronxville, N.Y., on July 23, 1940, Bill was the son of the late William and Mary Dabbs Pfeiffer. He began his education at The State University of New York (SUNY) at Farmingdale where he earned a double Associates Degree, one in Business Administration and the another in Dairy and Food Technology. After earning both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Hofstra University, he returned to SUNY Farmingdale as a member of the faculty beginning a legendary career in education. Through five decades, he served as a professor while teaching both Business Administration and also Food Technology and Restaurant Management, eventually serving as chairman of each department. “Pfeiffer Cost Accounting”, named in Bill’s honor, still remains on the school’s curriculum. Finally retiring in 2013 after leaving a lasting impact on all of his students, he would spend his retirement in Greentown, Pa.
Becoming an active member of the community, he and his wife were associate members of the Tafton Fire Co. A true Patriot, he loved John Wayne, enjoyed dining out, supported the Old Forge Blue Devils’ athletics and would never be one to pass up a good bottle of Jack Daniels. Above all, nothing meant more to him than being a “Papa” to his adoring grandchildren. Selfless, kind and caring, Bill leaves behind countless memories ensuring his legacy will long live on.
He is survived by two children, Suzanne Pfeiffer and companion Michael Correa of Old Forge and William Pfeiffer, III and companion Darcia Hutto of Old Forge; Papa’s five loving grandchildren, Cassidy, Keith, Kaileigh, Billy, IV, and Anthony Pfeiffer, all of Old Forge; a brother, Richard (Dick) Pfeiffer and wife Katie of Cheshire, CT.; and nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank all of those who gave care to Bill throughout his illnesses, especially Drs. Vitaly Geyfman and James McKenna, as well as both the Tafton FD and Old Forge community. They’ll be forever grateful.
Funeral services by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora are scheduled for Friday at 10:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday and Thursday each between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
