A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, September 8th, at 10:00AM at St. Clare Church, 2301 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, to be celebrated by Msgr. Neil J. Van Loon, Pastor. Military honors will be by the AMVETS Honor Guard with interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery in West Scranton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Saturday at the church from 9:30AM until Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to the Salvation Army, c/o 1155 River Street, Scranton, Pa., 18505, or to the donors favorite charity.

Ruth J. Sirgany, R.N., of Scranton’s Green Ridge section, passed away Wednesday evening, September 5, 2018.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Ameen and Mary Maroon Sirgany, Ruth was a graduate of both the former Scranton Central High School and the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing. She attended the University of Scranton and graduated from College Misericordia.
Ruth served as a Lt. for the Army Nursing Corp. during WWII, first in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and then at the England General Hospital in Atlantic City, N.J. Overseas, she worked as a surgical nurse and nursing supervisor for the 84th Field Hospital in both England and France before her Honorable Discharge from service.
At the war’s conclusion, she worked for many years at the V.A. Medical Center in Wilkes Barre, while remaining active with Veterans’ Administration Affairs. She was also active with the Scranton State Hospital Alumni Association, the American Legion, the Scranton Business and Professional Club and the American Association of University Women. Of Roman Catholic faith, she had been a devoted member of St. Clare Church, St. Paul Parish, in Scranton. She will be missed.
She is survived by her nieces, Karin Mille, N.J., Michele Mille, N.Y., and Marie Koueter, MI, and nephews, Joseph Fikany and wife Delores, MI, and Michael Mille and wife Andrea, N.Y.; and children, Michael and Christine.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Margaret Fikany, Agnes Sirgany and Eleanor Mille, Sam, Joe, Thomas, Dr. Philip and James Sirgany.
Her family would like to express its sincerest gratitude to the entire staffs of both Mountain View Care Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
