Lorella A. (Stalbird) Thomas, age 88, formerly of Crossin Towers in Duryea, passed away Sunday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Tally “Harry” Thomas, on November 12, 2003.
Born in Moosic on September 17, 1929 and daughter of the late Clifford and Elsie Barhight Stalbird, Lorella was a graduate of the former Moosic High School. After living in New Mexico where her husband was Army stationed during the Korean War, she returned home with her newborn son, her beloved Gary. She would then work as an administrative assistant for Capital Records, prior to her retirement.
Of strong faith, she was a regular attendee of the Moosic Alliance Community Church. Selfless, giving, caring and independent are only a few adjectives used to describe her. Her life centered around her son and she spent many years as both he and her husband’s caregiver. Despite countless hardships in her life, Lorella took each in stride and continued to smile. She will always be missed.
She is survived by her adored son, Gary Thomas of White Haven; her loving sisters, Margaret (Peg) Tucker and Lois Heckman and husband Robert, all of Moosic, and Luauna “Cookie” Gazda of Ashley; and many nieces and nephews.
A sister, Constance June (Stalbird) (Evans) Lindgren, preceded her in death on June 26th.
Her family would like to thank all of C.M.C.’s 8th floor and E.R. medical staff who had treated both Lorella and her family with sincere care and compassion.
