Ruth Turner, age 77, a lifelong resident of Moosic, passed away Wednesday evening at Allied Hospice in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Carl E. Turner, who tragically died on May 15, 1991.
Born on October 6, 1940, and daughter of the late Lafayette, Sr., and Mildred Paris Aldrich, Ruth was a graduate of Moosic High School, Class of 1958. She worked at several dress factories in the local garment industry before retiring as a health care aid for The Arc Northeastern Pennsylvania. Ruth was also a faithful member of the Moosic United Methodist Church.
She was independent, enjoyed traveling, and never passed up a slot machine that she didn’t enjoy. Memories of Atlantic City bus trips with her family will never be forgotten. Later in life, she even served as a bus driver for the Riverside School District.
Above all, Ruth was both an amazing and nurturing mother. It was not uncommon for her children to hear from others, “You have the best Mom.” And they surely did. Her child often teased her but despite her angry facade, she loved every minute of it. This was part of their amazing bond.
A loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Ondusko and husband David of Lehighton, David L. Turner and longtime companion Alberta Houman of Moosic and Douglas C. Turner and wife Amy of Moosic; her brother, William Aldrich of Taylor; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Duane E. Turner; and her brother, Lafayette Aldrich, Jr.
Her family would like to thank the tremendous staff of Allied Hospice for the care and compassion given to both Ruth and her family throughout Ruth’s stay.
Graveside services to be celebrated by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora, Pastor of the Moosic United Methodist Church, are scheduled for Saturday at 11:30AM at Marcy Cemetery, Foote Avenue in Duryea. Ruth will be laid to rest alongside her beloved son Duane at the conclusion of services.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
