Thomas J. Miller, age 58, of West Scranton, passed away Sunday evening surrounded by his loving family at Allied Hospice in Scranton, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, best friend and beloved wife, Doreen Conniff Miller. The couple celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on May 27th.
Born on June 14, 1959 and raised in South Scranton, Tom was the son of the late William A. and Helen Berry Miller. Educated at the former Scranton Technical High School, he worked as a flooring installer for Simplex Industries for 20 years prior to illness.
A baseball fan, Tom rooted for the Atlanta Braves. He also cherished the time coaching his son at West Scranton Little League. He loved both cars and working on cars, owning many throughout his years: Trans Am; Buick Super Sport; 1964 1/2 Mustang; Camaro; Challenger; and his favorite, his 1998 Chevy truck, just to name a few. A master handyman and “tinkerer,” he loved working on both necessary and unnecessary odd jobs. He loved spending time at the ocean, especially with his family, and he leaves behind amazing memories of his sense of humor and infectious smile. Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend, who will forever be missed by the countless who loved him.
He is also survived by his children, Monica Lee and husband Jason, Kristin Miller and companion Bobby Hamilton, Tom Miller, Jr., and companion Ashlee Thomas and Sabrina Miller, all of Scranton; his six adoring grandchildren with one more on the way; his siblings, Ellen Miller, Kathy McLaughlin, Mary Jane Prislupsky and husband Robert, Betsy Walsh and husband Jack, Ann Gilmartin and husband Michael, Margaret Glancey and husband Dave, Patricia Davis and husband Ernie and Mara Miller and companion Rick Mancia; his mother-in-law, Beverly Gallagher Conniff; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, William (Bubba) Miller, Ann Marie Brady and Mariane Miller, also preceded him in death.
Blessing services are scheduled for Thursday at 7:00PM at the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00 at the funeral home.
With Tom’s family’s deepest gratitude for their kindness, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are asked to be donated to Astra Zeneca Hope Lodge, 110 West Laurel Avenue, Cheltenham, Pa., 19012.
