Gerald William Moore, Jr., age 61, of Clifton Twp., passed away Wednesday, after a sudden illness.
Born in Taylor on December 12, 1956, and raised in Moosic, he was the son of Alice VanLouvender Moore of Clifton Twp. and the late Gerald W. Moore, Sr. He was a 1974 graduate of Riverside High School before entering the U.S. Navy. A proud Veteran, he was stationed on the Scandinavian and English coasts before his Honorable Discharge in 1977 and being awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
He eventually moved to Ohio where he worked in general construction in both Cleveland and Columbus before returning home after a dibilitating automobile accident five years ago. He was an active member of the Gouldsboro American Legion Post #274. The former Post #274 Commander, he was also an avid volunteer cook. Despite his own health ailments, his selfless nature led him to taking care of those around him, especially his beloved mother, before himself. He would help anyone in need and in a final gesture of kindness, he served as an organ donor to continue to help those in need for years to come. He will be forever missed by his loving family and friends.
He is also survived by his adoring daughters, Hilary Beavers and husband Matthew of Jefferson Twp. and Geri Moore and Jeffrey Volovitch of Old Forge; his sisters, Sharon McCabe and husband Patrick of Clifton Twp. and Lisa Alba and husband Joseph of Bushkill; his grandchildren, Bobby, Alyssa, Natalie, Alexis, Jase and Brock; niece, Stacie Taroli; nephews, Fred Taroli and Joseph and Orin Alba; and great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 31, at 1:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment with full military honors will follow at Spring Brook Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 11-1:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerald’s name to the American Legion Post #274, P.O. Box 55, Gouldsboro, Pa., 18424.
