Mildred Lane Thorne, age 89, of Scranton and formerly of Duryea, passed away Friday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after an illness. She was preceded in death on April 29, 1966, by her husband, David Thorne.
Born on April 23, 1929 and raised in Old Forge, Mildred was the daughter of the late Richard (Dick) and Mary Butler Lane. A graduate of Old Forge High School, she worked as a dietary assistant clerk for Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center prior to her retirement. She was a longtime member of the Old Forge Primitive Methodist Church.
Above all was Mildred’s family. She was a beloved mother, adoring grandmother and loving great grandmother who took an active roll in the lives of all of her loved ones. From sporting events to recitals, she never missed an activity. Loved by all who knew her, she’ll forever be missed,
She is survived by two children, Richard Thorne and wife Deborah of Frisco, Texas, and Kerri Shea of Scranton; her sister, Lorraine Sekol of Allentown; five grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; nieces, Kim Michaylo and Jody Farrell; and nephews, Randee Sekol and Bob Eskra.
Her daughter, June Ann Barber, and her sister, Joan Eskra, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to thank the entire staffs of both Geisinger Community Medical Center and Sacred Heart Hospice for the amazing care, kindness and compassion shown to Mildred and her family.
Funeral services by Rev. Doug Hoeffner are scheduled for Tuesday at 7:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects between 4-7:00PM. Private burial will be Wednesday in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mildred’s name to Lily’s Treasure Chest (c/o lilystreasurechest.org ).
