Obituaries

Emanuel “Butch” Johnson, age 64 of Scranton, passed away Saturday evening at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness.
Born on February 4, 1954, and son of the late Emanuel, Sr., and Emma Davis Johnson, he was educated in Scranton Schools, having graduated from West Scranton High School, Class of 1972. After attending Mansfield University, he began a career in sales.
“Butchie”, as he was affectionately called by all of his ‘West Side’ friends, had a great love of all athletics. His longtime favorite teams were the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Lakers.
He possessed an amazing knack for the “gift of gab”, leading to success as a salesman. He resided and worked in Allentown before returning to Scranton to care for his ill father. He was a devoted caregiver until his dad’s death in 2013.
He is survived by his loving sister, Vivian Greene of Smithfield, Virginia; his adoring nieces and nephew, Gretchen, Allison and Weston, along with their children; cousins, Paula, Justin and Sydney; and a wealth of dear friends.
His family would like to acknowledge the amazing staff of Geisinger C.M.C.’s Intensive Care Unit for their kindness and compassion.
