John J. Baronski, Sr., age 58, of Old Forge and formerly of West Scranton, passed away Monday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after an illness. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Joann Valencia Baronski. Wed on his birthday, 1978, the couple would have celebrated their 40th anniversary on Sunday.
Born in West Scranton on April 22, 1959, and son of the late Joseph and Dorothy Stone Baronski, John was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1977. For over 40 years, John worked for DW Richards Sons Food Service, eventually taking a position in sales. For over 20 consecutive years he was acknowledged as a top salesman in his field, continually receiving both regional and national achievement accolades. He loved his job, and his coworkers and customers grew into extended family and that’s exactly how he treated them. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church in West Scranton.
Formerly serving as President of the West Scranton Little Leage, he also coached his sons to four league championships. He also played softball for Career Uniforms & Scrubs, his wife’s business, in the Taylor Softball League. An avid bowler throughout his life, he played in many local leagues between the Green Ridge and South Scranton Lanes, while also bowling the elusive 300 game along the way. He once ran for Scranton City Council, enjoyed trips to the casino, and would never pass up a good game of poker.
Friendly, sociable and genuine, John was a truly good and loving person. He leaves behind the center of his world – his family: an adoring wife, three loving children, four grandchildren who meant everything to their “Popi”, five beloved siblings, and countless friends. He will always be missed.
He is also survived by his children, John Baronski, Jr., of Scranton, Joseph Baronski of Old Forge and Jayme Baronski of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Nickolas, Marcus, Faith and Reese; siblings, Joseph Baronski and wife JoAnn, Gene Baronski and wife Pam and Penny Fasulo, all of Scranton, Donna Matlock and husband John of Falls and Mary Jane Zupon of Old Forge; a mother-in-law, Josephine Valencia of Old Forge; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother-in-law, Leonard Joseph Zupon, Jr., a nephew, Leonard John Zupon; and a niece, Michelle Baronski Coleman, all preceded him in death.
His family would like to both acknowledge and thank all of John’s caregivers throughout his illness, especially the entire staffs of both Regional Hospital’s I.C.U. and the University of Pennsylvania, along with all of his doctors, especially Drs. Rajan Mulloth and John Prior, for the collective care and kindness given to both John and his family throughout this difficult time.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Saturday at 9:00AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 3-8:00PM at the funeral home.
