Karen Occhipinti, age 62, of Old Forge, passed away Saturday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.
Born in Old Forge on November 16, 1955, and daughter of the late Michael and Frances Sucheski Occhipinti, Karen was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1973. Prior to her illness, she worked for the former Rohr Lingerie in Old Forge. A devoted Roman Catholic, she was a lifelong member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
Karen enjoyed baking, gardening and solving crossword puzzles, but there was no greater joy in her life than spending time with her nieces and nephews. Despite enduring physical setbacks in her life, Karen kept a strong faith in God and love for her family. She will forever be missed.
She is survived by her siblings, Mary Ann Sobuto and husband John, Jr. of Old Forge, Michael Occhipinti and wife Karen of Moscow and John Occhipinti of Dickson City; nieces and nephews who adored their “Aunt Tee”, Michelle Occhipinti, Dr. John Sobuto and wife Dr. Amber, Ashley Kaminski and husband David, John Michael, Kayla, Kelsey and Gabriella Occhipinti; and great nieces and great nephews, Kennedy and Conlan Koelsch and Giovanni and Scarlett Sobuto.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and the entire staffs of both Riverside Center, where had resided, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for many years of amazing care, compassion and kindness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Saturday at 8:45AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s name to Saint Ann Basilica Parish, 1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton, Pa., 18504.
