Mary Ponzelli, age 92, a six-year resident of Allied Skilled Nursing Center, and formerly of Dickson City, passed away Wednesday, after an illness.
Born on April 1, 1925, Mary would have celebrated her 93rd birthday on Easter Day. Daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Rikitash Ponzelli, she was a graduate of the former Olyphant High School. Upon graduation, she moved to Orange, New Jersey, to live with her family and began a career with General Electric before returning to the area after fifty years.
She became an avid walker, covering countless miles throughout the Mid Valley while making many friends along the way. She enjoyed taking day trips, loved animals and adored her nieces and nephews. She was kind and caring and certainly touched the lives of all who had come in contact with.
She is survived by her many beloved nieces and nephews, especially Colleen McHale-Prislupsky and husband David and their daughter, Georgia, Sarah Augustine and husband Chris, Adam Sleboda and wife Jennie, Marty Sleboda, Milly Jones, and Myron Ponzelli.
She was also preceded in death by her niece and former caregiver, JoAnn Sleboda; and siblings, Ann McHale and Nicholas, Al, John and Andy Ponzelli.
Her family wishes to thank both Dr. Wayne Westin, M.D., and the entire staff of Allied Skilled Nursing’s 2-North Unit for the years of amazing care given to Aunt Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday at 9:30AM at Mary, Mother of God Parish, 316 William Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Cyril Edwards, Pastor. Entombment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum in Scranton.
Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary, Mother of God Parish.
Arrangements are under the care of the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
