Loretta Yarema, age 90, a lifelong resident of Old Forge, passed away Tuesday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, John Yarema, Sr., on September 20, 2002.
Born on November 22, 1927, and daughter of the late John and Helen Kulpak, Loretta was a 1945 graduate of Old Forge High School. For many years prior to her retirement, she worked for the former Dutchess Underwear Company of Old Forge. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Church in Old Forge, prior to its closure. She was a current member of Scranton’s Divine Mercy Church Parish.
Loretta was a member of Club Wanda, a women’s social club, and an avid quilter. She was also an excellent cook, specializing in Polish dishes. Kind, caring and friendly, she always wore an amazing smile. A friend to everyone she knew, she will be forever missed.
She is survived by her sons, John Yarema, Jr. and wife Ceil of Peckville and David Yarema and wife Jacqueline of Moosic; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Walter Ciaston, Joseph and Stanley Kulpak, Jean Brygadier and Wanda Carey, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank both Drs. Michael Jalowiez and Chris Peters for the outstanding care and compassion given to Loretta throughout her illness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at Divine Mercy Church Parish, 312 Davis Street, Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Pauselli, Pastor. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-6:00PM at the funeral home.
