Carolyn Patterson McArdle, 80, formerly of Moosic, died Saturday evening at Highland Manor, Exeter. She was the widow of David Pickrell, who died Jan. 17, 1961, and William McArdle, who died Jan. 7, 1996.
Born Aug. 24, 1937, in Avoca and raised in Moosic, daughter of the late Francis and Evelyn Tinklepaugh Patterson, she was a 1955 graduate of Moosic High School. She was employed for over 36 years by McKinney Manufacturing before her retirement. Carolyn was a member of the former Blessed Sacrament Church, Hughestown, and formerly of the Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) team at St. Peter’s Cathedral.
Carolyn was a very active and giving person who volunteered with the Red Cross, enjoyed swimming at St. Joseph’s, was an avid yard saler and bingo player, and was a member the Classic 55 High School group and the After 50 club at Greenwood Hose Company. She graced the television screen with her ballroom dancing. Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Charles Manganiello for the exceptional care given to Carolyn. Your kindness and gentle way will never be forgotten.
Surviving are her caregivers and nieces, Cheri Castiglione and husband, Dave, Pittston; and Debbie Blanchard and husband, Rick, Old Forge; a brother, William Patterson and wife, Bev, Moosic; sisters, Joan Yeck and husband, Robert, Moosic; Judy Manley, Scranton; Linda Polt and husband, Karl, Avoca; several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Shirley Mustich, preceded her in death.
Services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Daniel Toomey, a member of her extended family. Interment to follow in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, Hughestown.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carolyn’s name to the American Red Cross, 545 Jefferson Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
