Byron (Wes) W. Wescott, age 80, of Duryea, passed away Saturday evening at Highland Manor in Exeter. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Antonette Ostroski Wescott. They were wed on January 27, 1962. The couple recently celebrated their 56th anniversary.
Born in Scranton on July 8, 1937, and son of the late Anna Bleak Wescott, who died in Byron’s youth. He was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1954. A U.S. Veteran, he proudly served in the National Guard and the Army under the 101st Airborne. He worked for McKinney Products of Scranton and Gould Battery of Dunmore before retiring.
Byron was a faithful and devoted pillar of St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church Duryea. He served as a church chairman and his active volunteerism knew no bounds, ranging from handyman to Sunday school teacher. An avid gardener, he was also a Boston Red Sox fan and a former local league bowler along with Antoinette.
Byron’s ability to always remain humble, kind and loving while battling countless physical ailments along the way is a true testament to the person he was: selfless. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather to his three grandchildren, who he adored. He’ll forever be missed.
He is also survived by his two loving sons, Bryan Wescott and wife Jeannie and David Wescott, all of Duryea and his three loving grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Megan. As well as several nieces and nephews and many friends.
His family would like to thank the entire staff of Highland Manor for their genuine care, compassion and support throughout Byron’s stay.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday March 8th between 4-6:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Following a blessing service will be celebrated by Rev. Carmen Bolock, St. Mary’s P.N.C.C. Pastor, at 6:00PM at the funeral home. Private interment, St. Stanislaus P.N.C.C. Cemetery in Scranton.
