On Wednesday a very bright star ended. Salvatore Petrucci of Scranton passed suddenly. He was a caring, loving human being of enormous, unwithering, egalitarian commitment with a gigantic, empathetic soul as high as the highest mountain and deep as the deepest ocean. Sal had a fierce love which knew no bounds towards friends, family and especially the poor and vanquished. His love was as large as the cosmos.
Born August 5th, 1963 to Albert and Audrey Petrucci, Sal was a native of the Bunker Hill neighborhood and an altar boy at St. Rocco’s and a veteran player of the East Scranton Little League. Later he attended Scranton public schools and graduated with honors from Scranton Central High School. After high school he attended the University of Arizona, University of Scranton and was awarded with a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh where he received his dental degree finishing at the top of his class. He returned to Scranton and established the successful dental practice, Montage Dental. In the nature of his true character, he provided services to many that did not have the means to access proper dental care. After retiring from dentistry, he and his family relocated to California and he established another successful business, the renowned drug and alcohol treatment center, Renaissance Recovery in Malibu. Sal often spoke publicly about addiction counseling and he and his facility were highlighted on the news program 20/20. While there, he consulted and helped establish other treatment centers in California.
This big hearted man is survived by his children, Nicholas, Noah and Isabella; ex-wife, Amy Fitzpatrick Petrucci of Pittston; brother, Jeffrey Petrucci of South Abington Twp.; sister, Lisa Bruno and husband Mike of Simi Valley, Ca.; and is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Gladys and Joseph Adomiak and Salvatore and Rose Petrucci and uncle Jerry Petrucci and aunt, Patty Adomiak. Sal’s large spirit will be sorely missed, but always remembered.
The family would like to thank the selfless efforts of Joe Patterson, Jay DeLucy, his aunt, Linda Maher, Kristin Crowley and lastly, the incredible strength and unconditional love and support of his mother Audrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Avenue in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph F. Sica. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 9:00AM until Mass.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge. In keeping with Sal’s caring and giving nature, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the ASPCA or drug and alcohol treatment center of the donor’s choice. Please visit the funeral home’s website for directions or to leave an online condolence.
