Peter M. Brigido, age 81, of Old Forge, died Tuesday, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Pittston on April 22, 1936, Peter was the son of the late Carl and Mary Gentile Brigido. A 1954 graduate of Old Forge High School, he excelled for the Blue Devils’ football team, helping the school compile the best winning percentage in the state during his career. He proudly served his country in the Navy before his honorable discharge and prior to his retirement, he worked in sales for Interstate Brand, Inc.
An avid golfer, Pete was a regular at Fox Hill Country Club. He loved sports and playing cards and a longtime pillar of the Old Forge “Joint”, daily pinochle games will never be the same without him. Leaving behind his adoring family, especially his four grandchildren, he passed away peacefully Tuesday morning but will long be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Maryann Beseda Brigido; two loving children, Peter D. Brigido and wife Kelly of Plains Twp., and Joyce Brigido and fiance Elliot Carey of Old Forge; four talented grandchildren whom Pete was so proud, David, the amazing educator; Dante, the creative artist; Bonita, the soccer star; and Santino, the accomplished pianist and standout goal keeper; his brothers, Freddy Brigido of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Rev. Carl Brigido and wife Rev. Judy of Scranton; and nieces and nephews.
Pete’s family would like to thank Drs. Kenneth Sebastianelli and Glen Digwood, as well as Allied Hospice, especially nurse Rebecca, for the tremendous compassion given to Pete while he was under their care.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday at 9:30AM at Queen of the Apostle’s Parish, 715 Hawthorne Street in Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Interment with full military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Old Forge Cemetery.
