Walter J. Lockner, Jr., age 70, of Duryea, died Monday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes Barre, after an illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Karolyn Bierbach Lockner.
Born in Scranton on March 21, 1947, and son of the late Walter J., Sr., and Mildred Clark Lockner, Walter was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1967. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, prior to his honorable discharge in 1970.
For over 20 years, he worked for Tobyhanna Army Depot prior to his retirement. A former member of the V.F.W. and the Lions Club, he was an avid model maker and train collector. Walter had an amazing sense of humor, even throughout his illness, and his greatest joy came while spending time with his granddaughter, Julia. Passing away peacefully, he will be forever missed.
He is survived by two adoring children, Walter J. Lockner, III, of Duryea and Lisa Lockner of Dickson City; a beloved granddaughter, Julia Sweeney; two siblings, Richard Lockner of Scranton and Susan Mol and husband Michael of Dickson City; and nieces and nephews.
A nephew, Kevin Mol, also preceded him in death.
His family wishes to thank the entire staff of Celtic Hospice for the amazing care Walter received.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday at 7:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Susan Zimmerman. Burial, with full military honors, will be Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 5:00PM until services.
