Germaine McGuire, age 90, of Dickson City, died Thursday at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husbands, the late John Donovan and Kenneth McGuire.
Born in Hughestown on December 30, 1927, and daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Roche Hamlin, Germaine was a graduate of the former St. John’s High School. Upon raising her family, she worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry, but upon moving to Moscow she served as the cook for Kelly’s Motorcoach Inn, Gouldsboro, for 20 years prior to her retirement. A faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish while living in Moscow, she had recently attended Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Dickson City while living at Allied Apartments. An amazing baker, she will long be remembered for her apple pie and pepperoni bread. She was a caring neighbor to her friends at Allied Apartments. Passing away peacefully Thursday morning, she will be forever missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Kreig and husband Karl of Spring Brook Twp., James Donovan and wife Debra of Dickson City and Ronald Donovan of Moscow; sixteen grandchildren, Kelly Shaffer and husband Jim, Melissa Whited and husband Patrick, James Wesley, James Donovan and wife Allison, Thomas, Corey, Becky and Danielle Donovan, Devonta, Lashyla, Julia and Kyler, Khrystal Simmons and husband Ken, Katelyn, Kyle and Kevin McGuire; nine great grandchildren; her sister, Carol Hobbs of Hughestown; and many nieces and nephews.
Her son, Kevin McGuire; and siblings, Joseph Hamlin, Kathryn Ratchford, Madelyn Hurrey, Anna Boos, Genevieve McDermott and Mary Dougherty also preceded her in death.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Monday at 9:00AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Ave., West Scranton, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church Street, Moscow, to be celebrated by Rev. Robert Simon, Pastor. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
